“Poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere.” – Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary-General
Markets do not operate in a vacuum. Prosperity in one area is threatened by exclusion in another. The true health of an economy is measured not just by headline growth, but by its depth and inclusivity.
Investing in financial literacy, access and opportunity ensures that markets are not only profitable but equitable. Capital markets must support equitable participation if they are to drive enduring prosperity.
However, self-exclusion is also a reality we need to guard against. Disengagement needs to be confronted with empathy and sensitivity ensuring that financial literacy is also grounded in reality and is relevant to the context.
