Why is there no ZiG in Checheche?
Why is there no ZiG in Checheche? Why is there no ZiG in the rural areas? First of all, you should remember that we are coming out of a drought year. For someone in the rural areas to get ZiG they have to be involved in an economic activity that requires them selling something in exchange for ZiG. Now, if they didn’t produce enough maize then it means that they are not expecting any payment from the GMB, so, they will not get ZiG. You will find that when you go to the cotton producing areas, there you will find ZiG in circulation because the cotton marketing companies came to us and said they wanted ZiG to be able to pay the farmers for the cotton delivered, and so you find ZiG in those areas. You will not find ZiG in areas where there has not been that much economic activity because of the drought. So I would want to disagree with you that Zig has not been fully adopted in fact we are gradually increasing the usage of ZiG.
